Is Online Learning the Future of Education?

In the past if students wanted to get a qualification or wanted to learn something new, then they got registered for the course at institutions by paying course fees and attending classes physically. Online learning has revolutionized that process.

In the last year, e-learning market worth $166.5, and it is estimated that it will grow to $255 in 2017. Growing number of studentsfor online learning is the reason behind the financial growth of online education.

Global Shapers Survey of 25000 young people revealed that 77.84% of respondents have taken online courses in past. The question that matters is that: Will online learning affect the education in future?

Online learning has two forms. First is for-credit courses where students enrolled in postsecondary education attend online classes offered by higher education learning institutions. Second form of online education consists of professional training and certification programs.

In the Global Shapers Survey, 47.79% respondents showed interest towards certification courses and said they will like to take certification courses once their working careers get started. Hence, it is obvious that there is a large market for online education.

Online education does not come in our world without challenges. Online learning is highly criticized for its lack of quality, particularly the shortage of top-notch teachers. However, institutions are working to overcome challenges that e-learning is facing.

It is also said about online learning that it deprives the students to interact with teachers face to face. Reliable internet connection and electricity supply are also must for students who want to learn or explore things online.

Online education has taken great steps in recent years. More and more institutions of higher learning are introduced to students with reduced cost for study. Colleges and universities have introduced world-famous faculty members to improve online learning experience.

Online teaching quality of teachers is evaluated today by students who give ratings to their teachers online. This process has somewhat solve the problem of students who seek quality teaching standards for their online course.

40.56% of respondents in the Global Shapers Survey said that online education is as strong as traditional learning while 11.76% said that they are not sure whether it is traditional learning or e-learning that is strong.

Innovations in technology have made online education more accessible and manageable than it was before. Students need a computer, an internet connection, and some basic IT skills to cover their courses online.

Flexibility and low cost of online education are the reasons why online learning is preferred over traditional education by students. Students can access recordings whenever they want that allow them to revise lessons that were taught to them at an online class.

Online learning has taken teaching to a new level where students get the interaction and attention of teachers in a unique way. Online learning method is proven valuable to many students, hence those students recommend their fellow students to take online classes.

Online education is meant for all. Anyone who sees interest in an online course can get registered for it and learn it. Online learning is also accessible by people who live in remote areas. It is true that online education has a bright future.

Online education will be seen as an alternative to traditional education in future. Today, we should focus on the question:

How can we use online learning to deliver quality education to people all over the world?

Answer to the preceding question is not simple. Questions of quality control and accreditation stand as major obstacles to online learning. Obstacles are real, but it does not mean that we cannot overcome these obstacles.If we get answers to the preceding question, then we shall be able to say: Online education is the future of education.
