Sometimes we spend money on services and products which we do not need, but we feel we should have because other people do.   1. Get a cheaper cellphone

Cellphone plans can be costly, especially when you are tied to a long-term contract that does not meet your needs, and you keep going over your allowed minutes or data. What you might not realize is that you may be able to switch to a cheaper plan and find other ways to contact your friends and family, for example, by email or Skype. 

  1. Find cheaper wireless internet

Wireless internet is regarded by many people as an essential utility, especially with so many people now working from home and children being set homework assignments which need to be completed online.   1. Get rid of your car

This might be a non-starter, but if you only use your car to get to and from work and your place of employment is not far away, you might want to consider getting rid of your car. If you can walk, cycle, or take public transport to work, you could save a huge amount of money. If you need to keep your car, consider switching to a smaller engine which is cheaper to run.

  1. Reduce your food expenses

A lot of our money is spent on food and other household supplies, and a shocking amount is wasted. To minimize food wastage, plan your meals for the week based on a smaller variety of ingredients. Consider shopping in a new store or choosing generic products rather than branded ones. Buy non-perishable items in bulk and keep an eye out for promotions and coupons which could help. You should limit how often you eat out as these costs can quickly add up and, before you know it, you have spent a week’s shopping on two meals out. 

  1. Cancel your cable contract 

Cable is an expense that many people have, but it is certainly not an essential utility. There are plenty of free digital channels and on-demand streaming services, and most people don’t watch the majority of the channels they have access to when they have cable.
